Indian-Fried Morel Recipe

If you are an American with Indian descent, or if you were born in India, our guess that you haven't found many morel mushroom recipes with Indian spice. This original recipe leverages a diversity of Indian flavors and combines it with the traditional American frying-method. Another name for this dish could be Morel Mushroom Pakora, and we hope that you enjoy it.

Ingredients:

  • 10-12 morel mushrooms

  • 1/2 cup chickpea flour

  • 1/4 cup rice flour

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder

  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Clean the morel mushrooms with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris. Cut them into small pieces and set them aside.

  2. In a mixing bowl, add chickpea flour, rice flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.

  3. Add water slowly to the bowl and mix until the batter is smooth and thick.

  4. Heat oil in a deep pan or kadhai over medium heat.

  5. Dip the morel mushroom pieces into the batter and coat them evenly.

  6. Gently drop the coated mushrooms into the hot oil and fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy.

  7. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried mushrooms from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

  8. Serve the Indian-Fried Morel Mushrooms hot with your favorite chutney or sauce.

Note: You can also add other spices like cumin powder or garam masala to the batter for added flavor.
